Yesterday’s harvest.
The first picture is a plant called “mizuna”, you can eat the red-brown buds (at the base of the leaf) raw, and also cook the pinkish root. I only took the buds, can’t be bothered to prepare veggies on the road. It’s bland, and quite guewy. I find it comforting, but maybe only because I was shown to it at the camp in Hokkaido.
The second picture is a fruit-seed called “ho no mi”. The very absolute best tea on the planet. I’m crazy about it. It’s not in season yet, this one is not quite ripe, but I was on the ground so why waste it? I was so happy to have found it you have no idea.
Yes. I’m foraging in Japan just like I do at home. It’s one of my great achievements. 🙂
